My Epic Reading Adventures - Go Ask Alyss and Other Random Thoughts

Ok. I planned to write this post last Thursday. I actually typed the whole thing up and everything. Then I had to run and teach hip hop class. I ended up saving it on Blogger and totally forgetting about it. I re-read it and didn't like anything that I wrote. I decided to start all over today. Gosh, I was all over the place writing wise last week. I didn't read my short story when I should have (at least I posted the review on time). I didn't post three times. I spent my weekend reading fanfic, going to movies (I  just had to see Beauty and the Beast in 3D), and watching stuff on Netfix. In short not a lot writing happened but I did get some good book reading in so not all was lost. I'm definitely striving for writing improvement this week. I'm on the right track considering actually did everything I planned to do so far.

As you know was reading the Looking Glass Wars Trilogy. To get some perspective I thought it might be good to read Alice in Wonderland again. I wanted a refresher on some of the elements of the story. I found a graphic novel version of Alice in Wonderland in the nook store. I figured it would be a good way to brush up on the story and a great start on the graphic novel challenge that I sign up for. Be prepared for Alice (or Alyss as she is called in Looking Glass Wars) themed reviews. I'm going to work on the Alice in Wonderland review to post by this weekend. The week after I will review the entire Looking Glass Wars Trilogy in one post.

I have now started reading The Girl Who Played With Fire. I bought it on my Kindle application way before I got my Nook Color, so I have to read it on my phone instead of on my e-reader. The good news is that for Christmas I got a new phone with a bigger screen so it's actually been pretty easy reading. I'm enjoying the story so far. I might have to read some graphic novels this week to finish my two book minimum for this week though. This is for two reasons. One is that The Girl Who Played With Fire is I believe over 500 pages long. The second is because the books in the Millennium series don't seem to be fast reads. I don't mean that in a bad way. It just that they are good crime novels which means there is a lot of quality set up. I don't know what I will read in addition to The Girl Who Played With Fire. I'm thinking I might try the From Hell graphic novel. At the same time that would mean I'd be reading two stories with dark themes at the same time. Hmm...I'll keep thinking on it.

Oh, by the way, in case you were wondering I did get idea for the title of this post from the lyrics of the song White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. Gosh, that is a creepy little song. Great instrumentally lyrically disturbing.

Just the title of Looking Glass Wars intrigues me. Are they good? I haven't heard of that story before, but the insanity of Wonderland is always a sure way to catch my attention.

Opposite for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books. I couldn't make it past halfway through the first one before giving up. I didn't care about any of the characters or the politics in the book. :(

Smiles!
